During golden hour, the open fields at Rouse Hill Regional Park become bathed in warm, directional light that is genuinely difficult to replicate at any other time of day. Families walking hand in hand across open grass, children running freely through the fields, parents sitting together in the last light of the afternoon — these are the kinds of moments this location produces naturally.


Rouse Hill Regional Park works particularly well for family sessions, maternity photography and engagement shoots. The variety of environments within the park — open fields, tree-lined paths, quieter garden areas — means a single session can produce images that feel diverse without ever needing to travel between locations.



It is also genuinely family friendly. Parking is accessible, the terrain is easy to navigate with prams and young children, and the park is large enough that sessions feel private even when other visitors are present.


Nurragingy Reserve, Blacktown

Nurragingy Reserve is one of Western Sydney's most underrated photography locations — and one of my personal favourites for family sessions.


The reserve offers an exceptional variety of environments within a relatively compact space. Open lawns, tall established trees, quieter garden areas, structured pathways and natural bushland all exist within the same location. This variety means that every session at Nurragingy feels different, even for families who have visited before.


The late afternoon light at Nurragingy filters through the tree canopy in a way that is genuinely stunning for portraits. Dappled light through mature trees creates a soft, natural quality that flatters every skin tone and adds depth to images without the harshness of direct midday sun.


This location works beautifully for family sessions with young children. The contained environment means kids can explore freely without parents feeling anxious, and the variety of spaces keeps children engaged and naturally curious throughout the session — which always translates into more genuine, relaxed photographs.


Community Parks, Western Sydney

The community parklands throughout Ropes Crossing & Jordan Springs offer a relaxed, neighbourhood feel that suits a more documentary, everyday style of family photography. Wide open paths, established green spaces, natural grassy areas and a genuinely unhurried atmosphere make this location ideal for families who want images that feel like a natural extension of their daily life.


There is something quietly beautiful about a location that does not feel like a destination. Sessions at Ropes Crossing & Jordan Springs often produce images where families look completely at ease — because the environment feels familiar and low-key rather than formal or unfamiliar.


This location works particularly well for families with toddlers and primary school aged children who benefit from a relaxed, unstructured environment where they can simply play and interact naturally. It also suits families who live locally and want their photographs to feel connected to the community and landscape they actually call home.


Nepean River Foreshore, Penrith

The Nepean River foreshore offers something completely different to the parkland locations across The Hills District — and for the right family, it is absolutely breathtaking.


Water, open sky, soft reflective light and a sense of expansive natural space create a more dramatic and atmospheric backdrop than a traditional park setting. During golden hour, the light that reflects across the Nepean River produces a quality of warmth and depth that is genuinely unlike anything achievable in a studio or urban environment.


This location suits families who want something a little different — images with genuine atmosphere, a strong sense of place, and a feeling of space and openness. It works beautifully for family sessions, maternity photography and couples or engagement shoots where the landscape itself becomes part of the story.


The foreshore also offers a variety of environments along its length — grassy banks, tree-lined paths, open water views and quieter, more secluded spots — meaning sessions can feel varied and dynamic within a single location.
